"On the Hook" is essentially about intervention. The first intervention discussed is interpersonal as Joe Cyrus speaks of a personal intervention with himself. The track then continues toward intervention with those in our sphere of influence as a collective healing process for our world. We're all "On the Hook" with our own demons, and Karma until we work through it, thus the lines "on the hook with the skies". It's also a subtle ode to short story writer and novelist David Means.
